Along the water's edge

Jim Groeling and Seth Lancaster cofounded WharfWood to offer superior reclaimed old-growth redwood to discerning architects, builders, designers, project managers, and homeowners. WharfWood is dedicated to providing the best service, quality control, and reclaimed redwood products in the industry

Jim Groeling has designed and built fine handcrafted homes in and around Humboldt County for over 35 years. His refined design style combines local handcraftsmanship with the finest indigenous and reclaimed materials available. Jim began his building career when old-growth redwood could be readily purchased at the local lumberyards. In the early 1980's, when the impacts of old-growth logging were becoming clearer, Jim became a pioneer of building with reclaimed redwood. Jim lives and works in Petrolia on the Lost Coast of Northern California.

Seth Lancaster is a Humboldt County native with a passion for revealing the beauty in recycled materials. Prior to cofounding WharfWood, Seth was a consulting environmental planner and project manager on habitat restoration projects in Humboldt County. When Seth is not busy at WharfWood's lumberyard, he spends time with his wife and two children - and working on their unfinished redwood home - in the hills of Kneeland, California.
